Modeling electromechanical properties of ionic polymers

چکیده
We present a multi-scale approach to modeling the electro-mechanical behavior of ionic polymers. We start with a detailed elasto-electro-chemical model which allows for nite deformation. We reduce it to one space dimension appropriate for the commonly used sheet con guration, and demonstrate that steady state solutions display an important boundary layer e ect. We conclude with a macroscopic model of a strip of ionic-polymer-metal-composite.

Ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC) actuators have considerable potential for a wide range of applications. Although IPMC actuators are widely studied for their electromechanical properties, most studies have been conducted at the ambient conditions. The electromechanical performance of IPMC actuators at higher temperature is still far from understood. In this study, the effect of temperature ...

A new modeling approach is proposed for predicting the bulk electromechanical properties of piezoelectric composites. The proposed model offers the same level of convenience as the wellknown Mori-Tanaka method. The electromechanical properties of four piezoelectric polymer composite materials are predicted with the proposed, Mori-Tanaka, Self-consistent methods, and detailed finite element anal...
متن کاملCharacterization of the Electromechanical Properties of EAP materials
Electroactive polymers (EAP) are an emerging class of actuation materials. Their large electrically induced strains (longitudinal or bending), low density, mechanical flexibility, and ease of processing offer advantages over traditional electroactive materials. However, before the benefits of these materials can be exploited, their electrical and mechanical behavior must be properly quantified....
